Blue Carnation Soap

Blue Carnation Soap

Every so often, a soap has a story behind it. OK maybe a lot of times a soap has a story. Mine do anyway. The Blue Carnation Bar is no different.

This bar started with a phone call. I received a call from a friend of mine. This friend is a woman who does everything for everyone and always thinks of her self last. She has a special request. Her Grandmother, who passed on a few years ago, use to wear a perfume called "Blue Carnation". She wanted to know if I could recreate this fragrance for HER Mother for Mothers Day. I was a little nervous but as always, up for a good soapy challenge!

I researched online and found out that this was a popular Perfume from the 1930s until 1970s. I even found a site that broke down the main fragrance notes in it. Going by those percentages, I went to work.  This was a unique blend of Carnation flower, Anise, Vanilla and Black Pepper. Black Pepper is a popular scent today, who would have thought it was around back them also.

In the mean time,  my friend found an old bar of soap that had never been opened. It was a prized item in this family. It was all they had left of "Nanas Scent". I finished up a basket containing, Body Spray, Body Lotion, small hand soap and a 6 oz. bar of soap.

I wanted to please my friend. She is always helping and pleasing others before herself, that I really wanted to come through for her on this. I called to tell her it was finished. She brought over this little box. In the box was the last bar of unused soap from Nana.

The NEW soap was very very close in scent. She was happy! She went straight to her Moms and gave her the gift basket 3 days before Mothers Day. The picture above is her Mother with her basket that smells like her Mothers Perfume.

Members of the family thanked me and said how nice it was to have a small part of their Grandma there on Mothers Day.

This is just one of the reasons I love to make soap!
